LOCTITE 648
LOCTITE 648 is a green, low-viscosity, high-strength retaining compound designed for the secure bonding of cylindrical metal parts even under high temperature and oily conditions.
LOCTITE 648 is engineered to lock bearings, gears, bushings and rotors into place with high reliability. It cures anaerobically between close-fitting metal surfaces, requiring no mixing or primer even on slightly oily parts. The compound offers high shear strength (>27 N/mm²), temperature resistance up to approximately +180 °C and oil contamination tolerance, making it ideal for applications such as gearbox shafts, motor rotors and other cylindrical assemblies in demanding industrial environments.
Specifications
Colour: Green liquid Viscosity: ~400-600 mPa·s at 25 °C Shear strength (steel): ≥ 27 N/mm² Operating temperature range: ~–55 °C to +180 °C Maximum gap fill: ~0.15 mm Primary Chemistry:
Methacrylate ester
Features & Benefits
High strength ensures dependable bonding of cylindrical parts under load
Low viscosity allows penetration into tight fits for secure retention
Oil-tolerant formula simplifies use in real-world conditions
High temperature resistance expands operating envelope
Fluorescent under UV light for easy inspection of coverage
Problems Solved
Prevents loosening and fretting of cylindrical assemblies caused by vibration or thermal cycling
Eliminates reliance on mechanical locks such as keys or pins
Improves assembly reliability when minor contamination or throughput pressures are present
Supports maintenance of high-temperature industrial equipment without adhesive failure
Applications
Apply LOCTITE 648 to clean metal surfaces of cylindrical parts such as bearings, gears or bushings. Assemble the components ensuring full contact and allow the adhesive to cure anaerobically. The adhesive works even where lubrication or cutting fluids remain. Once cured it provides high-strength retention while tolerating demanding operating conditions.
