LOCTITE® AA 3963
LOCTITE® AA 3963 is a transparent, low-viscosity light-curing acrylic adhesive that bonds rigid plastics and metals. It cures rapidly under UV or visible light and is suitable for medical-device and general-purpose rigid bonding applications.
LOCTITE® AA 3963 is engineered for assemblies that require fast, dependable bonding of rigid substrates such as stainless steel, polycarbonate, ABS, acrylic and treated polyolefins. When exposed to UV or visible light, AA 3963 cures to a strong, rigid bond that resists humidity and ageing, making it ideal for medical devices, precision components and industrial assemblies. The low-viscosity formulation enables efficient dispensing and uniform coverage even on small or intricate parts. Its capacity for rapid, tack-free cure supports high throughput in production environments.
Specifications
Viscosity (uncured): 250–450 mPa·s at 25 °C (cone & plate, 100 s⁻¹) Specific gravity (uncured) ≈ 1.02 at 25 °C Cure method: UV / visible light exposure Typical fixture time (at 10 mW/cm², 405 nm LED): ≤ 10 seconds for 0.1 N/mm² shear strength Tack free time (high intensity LED, 405 nm, 1 400 mW/cm²): 5–10 seconds Cured bond properties: Shore D hardness ~71, elongation ~38%, tensile strength ~23 N/mm² Typical substrates: stainless steel, polycarbonate, ABS, acrylic, HDPE/PP when pre-treated, other rigid plastics and metals Primary Chemistry:
Acrylic ester, light-cure (acrylated urethane)
Features & Benefits
Fast light-cure process reduces assembly cycle time and increases throughput.
Low viscosity allows easy application even on small or complex parts.
High adhesion to rigid plastics and metals ensures durable, long lasting bonds.
Fluorescent additive enables visual inspection of adhesive coverage under UV light.
Resistance to humidity and accelerated aging enhances reliability in demanding environments.
Problems Solved
Eliminates long curing cycles linked to two-part adhesives, speeding up production.
Prevents incomplete or weak bonding on rigid substrates such as metals and engineering plastics.
Removes variability caused by manual mixing or multi-component adhesives.
Supports medical-device and clean-environment manufacturing by providing a clean, stable bond.
Ensures consistent adhesive coverage in small, precision or high-volume assemblies.
Applications
Use LOCTITE® AA 3963 to bond rigid plastics, metals or combinations thereof. Ensure bonding surfaces are clean and dry. Dispense adhesive and assemble parts. Expose the joint to UV or visible light of adequate intensity to cure rapidly. The low-viscosity formulation ensures even coverage, even on intricate or small parts. Appropriate for medical-device assembly, electronics housings, rigid plastic or metal component bonding, and general rigid bonding tasks where a fast and durable bond is required.
