Elvacite™ 2013
Elvacite™ 2013 is a low–molecular weight, fast-dissolving methyl methacrylate/n-butyl methacrylate resin with a fast solvent release. It is used in lacquers, coatings, and inks.
Elvacite™ 2013 is a methyl methacrylate/n-butyl methacrylate copolymer resin with low molecular weight in solid bead format. It dissolves quickly in toluene, esters, ketones, chlorinated hydrocarbons, and glycol ethers. Elvacite™ 2013 resin is often used as a film former in lacquers, where it provides a low solution viscosity and rapid solvent release. Films formed using this resin will be clear and durable films with excellent UV, temperature, and weathering resistance. The monomer composition of Elvacite™ 2013 makes it softer and more flexible than other acrylic resins, such as polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). Elvacite™ 2013 is used in coil coatings when flexibility, durability, and fast cure are required. The fast solvent release of Elvacite™ 2013 allows for coil coating formulations that cure quickly and have great flexibility plus durability to withstand use in outdoor applications. Elvacite™ 2013 may also be blended with other softer Elvacite™ copolymer resins, such as Elvacite™ 2014, to customize film properties. In marine environments or concrete applications, chlorinated rubber may be blended with an acrylic resin like Elvacite™ 2013 to enhance gloss and improve resistance to yellowing.
