Elvacite™ 2046
Elvacite™ 2046 is an acrylic, solid-bead resin used as a binder and film former in ceramic coatings, aluminum finishes, printing inks, and adhesives.
Elvacite™ 2046 is an iso-butyl methacrylate/n-butyl methacrylate copolymer resin with a high molecular weight and a relatively low glass transition temperature of 35°C. Elvacite™ 2046 is commonly used in solvent-based formulations to form films that adhere well to smooth substrates, such as plastics and aluminum. Because of this, it is typically used in applications such as adhesives, inks, and coatings for flexible packaging, where it imparts a good balance of toughness and flexibility. Elvacite™ 2046 also has good chemical resistance, preventing substrate attack from dilute acids and alkalis, moisture, chemical fumes, and corrosive environments. The Elvacite™ 2046 acrylic resin is soluble in low-cost hydrocarbons and alcohols and can be used with thinners, such as mineral spirits and VM&P naphtha. Elvacite™ 2046 is also an ideal resin to formulate ceramic coatings.
Dissolves at room temperature Excellent flexibility Good durability Chemically resistant Great weathering resistance Improved adhesion to a variety of substrates
