Elvacite™ 2971C
Elvacite™ 2971 is a high molecular weight methacrylate resin that is used as a modifier in UV ink formulation to control viscosity and reduce shrinkage.
Elvacite™ 2971C is a thermoplastic acrylic polymer composed of methyl methacrylate and n-butyl methacrylate.
It is available as a solid bead that is soluble in toluene, esters, ketones, and chlorinated hydrocarbons.
Elvacite™ 2971C
is also soluble in acrylic monomers used in UV curable systems.
It is often added to UV curable inks and coatings to modify viscosity and prevent shrinkage upon cure.
Elvacite™ 2971C is also used as a film former to produce clear, scratch resistant, flexible films.
Due to its thermoplastic nature, flexibility, and high molecular weight; Elvacite™ 2971C is used as a resin for heat seal lacquers.
Shrinkage in UV curable formulations caused by rapid cross-linking
Interference with curing mechanisms caused by reactive rheology additives
Coatings with poor toughness and abrasion resistance
Applications
UV Inks; UV Coatings; Heat Seal Lacquers; Metal Coatings; Traffic Paint; Concrete Coatings
