    Lyophilizers or industrial scale freeze dryers are used in a large variety of chemical & pharmaceutical processing and involve complex mechanisms and precise temperature control.  Traditionally, the go-to heat transfer materials have been CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons), TCE (trichloroethylene), methylene chloride or silicone-based oils.  These materials, although effective thermal solutions, exhibit significant safety hazards or are environmentally damaging.

    Common safety concerns amongst these traditional chemistries involve high levels of flammability, excessive toxicity concerns, or significant contribution to climate change & ozone damage.
