Krytox™ 157FS(L) Oil is a nonflammable, low-viscosity, functionalized fluorinated oil that acts as a surfactant.
Krytox™ 157FS(L) is a low-viscosity (99.4–149 cSt, 40°C) fluorinated oil that functions as a surfactant. Krytox™ 157FS(L) contains a functionalized carboxylic acid group at the terminal fluoromethylene group of poly(hexafluoropropylene oxide).
Krytox™ 157FS(L) is insoluble in common organic solvents and is completely nonflammable.
Viscosity @ 40°C, cSt: 99.4–149
Appearance: Clear to hazy, pale straw color
TAN-E, mg KOH/g: 19–35
Pour point: −29°C (−20°F)
Density, @ −9°C (15°F): 1.91 g/mL
Molecular weight: −2,500
Ineffective surface wetting and poor coverage
Reactive or unstable coatings in sensitive electronic manufacturing
Surfactant incompatibility with solvent, lubricant, or polymer chemistries
Krytox™ 157FS(L) can be used in a variety of applications, including as a performance surfactant and for surface preparation in sensitive manufacturing, like magnetic recording discs.
It is also hypothesized that using Krytox™ 157 FS(L) and 157 FS(H) leads to a more tenacious surface adhesion of applied Krytox™ lubricant due to the fluoroalkyl ether tail of the surfactant being attracted to identical molecular structures of the fluorinated oil.
