Krytox™ 157FS(L) is a low-viscosity (99.4–149 cSt, 40°C) fluorinated oil that functions as a surfactant. Krytox™ 157FS(L) contains a functionalized carboxylic acid group at the terminal fluoromethylene group of poly(hexafluoropropylene oxide).
Krytox™ 157FS(L) is insoluble in common organic solvents and is completely nonflammable.
Ineffective surface wetting and poor coverage
Reactive or unstable coatings in sensitive electronic manufacturing
Surfactant incompatibility with solvent, lubricant, or polymer chemistries
Krytox™ 157FS(L) can be used in a variety of applications, including as a performance surfactant and for surface preparation in sensitive manufacturing, like magnetic recording discs.
It is also hypothesized that using Krytox™ 157 FS(L) and 157 FS(H) leads to a more tenacious surface adhesion of applied Krytox™ lubricant due to the fluoroalkyl ether tail of the surfactant being attracted to identical molecular structures of the fluorinated oil.
