SilGrip™ PSA529 is a high-performance silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive made by Momentive. It is a 55% solids solution of polysiloxane gum and resin in toluene and can be diluted with aromatic, aliphatic, or chlorinated solvents to achieve the desired viscosity. The silicone backbone of SilGrip™ PSA529 is resistant to moisture, weathering, chemicals, and biological attack, making it the ideal contact adhesive for challenging environments.
SilGrip™ PSA529 is the most versatile silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive in the Momentive SilGrip™ line of adhesives. It may be used to promote adhesion to a wide variety of surfaces, including steel, aluminum, and low–surface energy materials, such as silicone, fluoropolymers, and polyolefins.
The good balance of high-temperature resistance, peel, shear, and cohesive strength makes SilGrip™ PSA529 an ideal adhesive for many tape, label, and assembly applications. Common applications for this silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive include creating laminations with films and foils and replacing mechanical fasteners in assembly applications requiring high adhesive and resistance to heat or chemical attack. SilGrip™ PSA529 is often used in aerospace and automotive industries to fasten and bond dissimilar materials that will be exposed to extreme temperatures.
SilGrip™ PSA529 is supplied at a viscosity suitable for conventional coating equipment. Once applied to the substrate, it may be exposed to a two-step process for solvent removal and curing with a peroxide at elevated temperature for creating tapes and labels. Alternatively, it may be cured at room temperature using Momentive SilGrip™ SRC18 catalyst for lamination applications.
