HiTEC® 5739 viscosity index improver is a methacrylate polymer recommended for power transmission fluid and multigrade industrial lubricant formulations. The additive improves the viscosity index (VI) of mineral oil, enhancing viscosity control across a wide temperature range. It exhibits exceptional shear stability and has been extensively tested, demonstrating performance against industry shear requirements. This results in longer fluid life and longer drain intervals. Additionally, HiTEC® 5739 viscosity modifier has excellent filterability, providing a clean-running fluid free of impurities and particulate matter that can lead to filter plugging. It imparts excellent hydrolytic stability in cases of water contamination.

Without viscosity modifiers, mineral oil-based lubricants subjected to high or low temperatures will undergo large changes in viscosity that can be detrimental to machinery. However, not all viscosity index improvers perform equally. Polymers with poor shear stability can break down under demanding conditions, affecting the lubricant's performance and longevity. Additionally, some polymeric additives cannot pass through the fine filters used to remove impurities and deposits.
