LOCTITE® 641
LOCTITE® 641 is a medium-strength retaining compound designed for bonding cylindrical fitting parts, especially where regular servicing or disassembly is required.
LOCTITE® 641 is formulated to secure bushings, bearings, speedi-sleeves, collars and similar close-fitting cylindrical metal parts while permitting future disassembly. Its one-component anaerobic chemistry cures when confined between metal surfaces in the absence of air and forms a tough polymer film that resists movement, fretting and vibration. The medium-strength bond ensures the part remains fixed in service yet can be removed with standard tools during maintenance. Operating reliably in temperatures ranging from –55 °C to +150 °C, this compound supports engineered fits where precision and serviceability are both crucial.
Specifications
Colour: Yellow Viscosity: approximately 600 mPa·s at 25 °C Operating temperature range: –55 °C to +150 °C Shear strength (steel): ~12 N/mm² after cure Maximum diametral clearance: ~0.1 mm Primary Chemistry:
Methacrylate ester
Features & Benefits
Provides reliable retention of cylindrical components that require occasional dismantling.
Prevents loosening and wear caused by vibration or axial movement between mating parts.
Ensures uniform load distribution across the interface for improved durability.
Medium strength allows part removal with standard hand tools when needed.
Compatible with a wide range of metals including steel, aluminium and brass.
Helps to reduce unplanned downtime and maintenance costs by improving joint reliability.
Problems Solved
Eliminates movement, slip or fretting between cylindrical assembled parts which can lead to premature failure.
Removes the need for mechanical fasteners such as keys or pins, simplifying assembly and lowering inventory.
Reduces risk of improper fits or tolerances causing component wear or vibration problems.
Enables parts to be serviced and replaced without damage, thereby prolonging equipment life.
Improves system reliability by delivering consistent bonding performance in demanding applications.
Applications
LOCTITE® 641 should be applied to clean, dry metal surfaces before assembly of cylindrical parts. Once assembled, the compound cures anaerobically to lock parts in place. This retaining compound is ideally suited for parts that require secure retention but eventual servicing such as bearings on shafts, housings, couplings and more. Where the use of inactive or plated metals may slow cure, use of a Henkel activator is recommended to accelerate the bond.
