METHOCEL™ K15M
METHOCEL™ K15M is a high–molecular weight hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) thickener. It will yield a viscosity of 15,000 cPs at 2% in water and is commonly used to thicken coatings, adhesives, and cleaners.
METHOCEL™ K15M is an HPMC polymer with moderate hydroxypropyl substitution. This cellulose ether is typically used as a rheology modifier, binder, water retention aid, or suspension aid in water-based coatings, adhesives, and cleaners. Solutions containing METHOCEL™ K15M impart shear-thinning rheology, have excellent lubricity and spreadability, and are stable across a broad pH range. The hydroxypropyl content provides for moderate solvent compatibility, making this thickener a valuable additive for water–solvent blends. METHOCEL™ K15M features reversible gelation at temperatures above 90°C, which helps provide a boost in green strength for ceramics and adhesives. METHOCEL™ K15M is also used to control the viscosity of latex architectural paints, coatings, and cleaners that assists with application and adherence. In addition to viscosity control, this grade also provides improved film durability and storage stability of suspensions and emulsions.
