Silquest™ A-137 is a silicone-based water- and oil-repellent chemistry for sealer formulations. It is an ideal replacement for PFAS-based chemistry.
Silquest™ A-137 is a silane typically used to improve water and oil resistance in penetrating sealers for industrial applications. It is easily dissolved in a number of organic solvents to form a colorless solution. Silquest™ A-137 reacts with moisture to form a protective film within the particles of porous materials to resist degradation from water and salts. Thus, Silquest™ A-137 is typically used in penetrating sealers applied to concrete, bricks, stone, masonry, wood, and other porous substrates. Silquest™ A-137 helps sealers meet or exceed government test requirements associated with traffic-bearing surfaces, such as bridges and parking structures. It protects without impacting abrasion resistance or the appearance of the sealed substrate. In many cases, the degree of protection Silquest™ A-137 provides can last years. Applying Silquest™ A-137 in sealers does not restrict water vapor transmission and helps reduce efflorescence and staining in sealed substrates. Silquest™ A-137 also has use in pigmented coatings, adhesives, and sealers, where it helps improve pigment dispersion.
