CoatOSil™ 1211C is a silicone-based additive that is an ideal replacement for fluorosurfactants, providing superior wetting and leveling properties for water-based coating and ink formulations.
CoatOSil™ 1211C is a silicone additive that provides effective wetting and improves leveling in water-based coatings and inks. It is a 100% active modified silicone that provides significant surface-tension reduction in solutions with water, reducing surface tension to as low as 22 mN/m at a 0.1 wt% addition rate with minimal foaming. This helps overcome wetting challenges on low–surface energy substrates, such as plastics and metals, resulting in better spreading and coverage. CoatOSil™ 1211C also helps improve the flow properties of water-based formulations to reduce visual defects such as cratering, pinholing, orange peel, and fish eyes and create better film uniformity. It even promotes the smooth application of coating formulations on oil-contaminated surfaces. Due to these properties, CoatOSil™ 1211C is known as a super spreader additive. It may also be used to improve pigment dispersion stability and color acceptance. While ideal for water-based coatings, CoatOSil™ 1211C may also be used in solvent-based or radiation-curable systems. Common applications where CoatOSil™ 1211C is used include spray- or roll-applied coatings for metal, wood, glass, and plastic substrates. Given the functions and properties of CoatOSil™ 1211C, it is an ideal choice to replace fluorosurfactants or PFAS-containing additives used for wetting and leveling.
