Krytox™ GPL 255 Grease is a specialty synthetic PFPE lubricant with added fluorescing agents for easy detection under UV blacklight. It is NLGI Grade 2 with a base oil viscosity of 160 cSt at 40°C.
Krytox™ GPL 255 Grease is a specialty lubricant that appears white with an added fluorescing agent in the oil to allow for easy detection under UV or black light to determine the application uniformity.
Krytox™ GPL 255 is not intended for routine application as a lubricant without proper qualification testing. The fluorescing additive is present at low levels, but its effect on lubrication performance has not been tested.
Product type: Grease lubricant
Base oil: Synthetic PFPE
Base oil viscosity, cSt:
@ 20°C (68°F): 550
@ 40°C (104°F): 160
@ 100°C (212°F): 18
NLGI Grade: 2 (penetration 265–295)
Appearance: White and buttery
Thickener system: Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)
Primary Chemistry:
Perfluoropolyether (PFPE)
Difficult to identify leaks or grease placement
Frequent grease migration or lubricant loss
Incredibly short lubricant usability life
Krytox™ GPL 255 is for use under black light to uncover surface areas where grease coverage is absent. It is ideal for applications requiring 100% surface coverage or with surface areas intentionally excluded from being covered by grease, such as use on seals, valves, O-rings, and bearings.
Under ultraviolet light, Krytox™ GPL 255 gives off a yellowish-green color visible to the unaided eye. The only equipment necessary is a standard broad-spectrum ultraviolet lamp, commonly known as a black light, that emits long-wave ultraviolet light in the 365 nm range, which is available from most common industrial supply companies.
