Eastman Solus™ 3050 is a cellulosic performance additive designed to improve wetting, leveling, dry-to-touch times, and metallic pigment orientation in water-based and low-VOC coatings. Unlike other Solus™ additives used in solventborne systems, Solus™ 3050 is compatible with waterborne systems after dissolution in selected solvents or blends of solvents and water. This extends the utility of Solus™ to more modern and sustainable coating and ink formulations.

Solus™ 3050 can be used to improve surface wetting and leveling and optimize metallic pigment orientation to create smooth and bright water-based automotive OEM and refinish basecoats without sacrificing productivity. Solus™ 3050 optimizes metallic pigment flake orientation, which may help reduce cost because less metallic pigment is required to achieve good flop values that lead to a better appearance. When used in industrial coating applications, Solus™ 3050 improves dry-to-touch time and enhances wetting and leveling properties, affording formulators a tool that ensures efficiency and optimal appearance. These same benefits also apply to water-based ink formulations.
