CA-398-3 is the lowest molecular weight cellulose acetate available from Eastman™. Coatings made from CA-398-3 have excellent heat resistance, chemical resistance, durability, UV stability, and will outperform coatings based on nitrocellulose. CA-398-3 can also be used in food contact applications as it is generally recognized as safe by the FDA. CA-398-3 can also be used to make filtration membranes. These membranes are well suited for applications with a high risk of fouling. Membranes composed of cellulose acetate make intimate contact with aqueous feed streams and reduce the risk of fouling. They are also resistant to chlorine allowing them to be cleaned without being degraded.
Cellulose Acetate, like CA-398-3, has a natural selectivity for CH4 and CO2. This is why spiral wound and hollow fiber membranes composed of cellulose acetate are ideal for natural gas filtration and sweetening. CA-398-3 is available as a free flowing powder and should be let down in solvent prior to addition to a formulation.
