METHOCEL™ A4M is a medium molecular weight methylcellulose based thickener that yields a viscosity of 4,000 cP at 2% in water.
Methoxyl: 27.5 - 31.5%
Sodium Chloride: Max 1.5%
Viscosity, 2% in water, @20°C, calculated: 3,500 - 5,600 cP
Primary Chemistry:
Methylcellulose (MC)
METHOCEL™ A4M is a water-soluble methylcellulose polymer used as a thickener, rheology modifier, binder, and film former. Solutions containing METHOCEL™ A4M are thixotropic in nature and have excellent lubricity and spreadability as well as outstanding stability in extreme pH. METHOCEL™ A4M works well as a binder and processing aid for ceramic extrusion. It will reversibly gel at temperatures over 55°C and provide a dramatic increase in green strength for ceramics prior to firing.

Defects in ram extruded ceramics that is caused by low green strength
Loss of viscosity during storage of acidic and alkaline formulations
Poor cling of adhesives and paints to vertical and overhead surfaces
Rough finishes of injection molded ceramics
Sagging and deformation of thin walled ceramic shapes
METHOCEL™ A4M is ideal for ceramic and plastic extrusion applications and it can also be used in cleaners and coatings. METHOCEL™ A4M applications and functionality on our Cellulosics dedicated website. Click Here!
