Overview
METHOCEL™ K4M Premium is a high-purity cellulose-based powder used as a thickener in water-based formulations and as a binder in ceramic applications. When added to water at 2%, it forms a solution with a viscosity of approximately 4,000 cPs. METHOCEL™ K4M Premium, which is a HPMC thickener, is manufactured by treating cellulose with methyl chloride and propylene oxide to provide a moderate degree of hydroxypropyl substitution on the cellulose polymer backbone. Compared to the standard METHOCEL™ K4M, this grade contains fewer impurities for applications that require regulatory approvals. Solutions made with METHOCEL™ K4M Premium are thixotropic and easy to spread and have good lubricity. It is commonly used in coating and ink formulations to control viscosity and may also be used as a binder in ceramic applications to increase green strength.
