MAA (methyl acetoacetate, CAS number 105-45-3) is a colorless liquid with the chemical formula C5H8O3. Methyl acetoacetate is primarily intended to be used as a copromoter for synthesizing unsaturated polyester resins. Acetoacetates can improve adhesion to metal substrates, lower the glass transition temperature, reduce resin viscosity, and cross-link with other polymers. MAA develops desirable hardness more rapidly than resins copromoted with DMA at equivalent treat rates. MAA can also be used as an intermediate for agricultural and pharmaceutical chemicals, and as an intermediate chemical and stabilizer for fragrances. MAA is soluble in water and common organic solvents.
