N,N-Dimethylacetoacetamide
DMAA 80 is an 80% solution of N,N-dimethylacetoacetamide compound dissolved in water. DMAA 80 is the most widely used copromoter in unsaturated polyester resin formulations. It is most effectively used in resin formulations with glycols such as PG, NPG, or TMPD. Acetoacetates are widely used in polyester resin polymerization because of their ability to lower the polymer glass transition temperature (Tg) and solution viscosity, as well as cross-link with other polymers via multiple reaction pathways. DMAA 80 also accelerates the cure time of polyester resins without compromising the properties of the final product. Its low color makes it ideally suited for polymerizing resins for gel coats and other color-sensitive coating applications. DMAA 80 can also be used as a chemical intermediate in various industries.

Certain polyester resins, particularly ones used in gel coat applications, are sensitive to color and cannot use copromoters or other intermediates that cause the resin to yellow. Resin manufacturers must also be wary of copromoters that negatively impact the final resin properties, such as raising the glass transition temperature or increasing solution viscosity. Cure time can also be a critical component, as long cure times can cause delays and production inefficiencies.
