METHOCEL™ J12MS is a surface treated HPMC thickener. Hydration can be triggered with a pH adjustment and will yield a viscosity of 12,000 cP at 2% in water.
Methoxyl: 16.5 - 20.0%
Hydropropoxyl: 23.0 - 32.0%
Viscosity, 2% in water @20°C: 10,000 - 16,500 cPs
Primary Chemistry:
Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC)
METHOCEL™ J12MS is a surface treated hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) based polymer with high hydroxypropyl substitution. Surface treated grades of METHOCEL™ are cross linked with glyoxal in order to delay hydration of the polymer. This allows for METHOCEL™ J12MS to be easily and completely dispersed in aqueous solutions prior to hydration being triggered, most commonly by a pH adjustment. The high hydroxypropyl content of METHOCEL™ J12MS makes it compatible with common organic solvents and it's thixotropic nature provide solutions with excellent lubricity and spreadability. Additionally, METHOCEL™ J12MS has excellent pH stability in both acidic and alkaline environments making it an ideal thickener for cleaning products. METHOCEL™ J12MS is used in water based architectural coatings to precisely control viscosity and rheology. When added to latex paints METHOCEL™ J12MS improves storage stability, film durability, and brush loading.
