METHOCEL™ J75MS is a surface-treated hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) thickener with a viscosity of 75,000 cPs at 2% in water. This grade's surface treatment makes it comparatively easier to create solutions with.
METHOCEL™ J75MS is a surface-treated hydroxypropyl methylcellulose polymer often used as a rheology modifier. This polymer has a high degree of hydroxypropyl substitution and a low degree of methoxy substitution. The variance in methoxy and hydroxypropyl groups attached to the cellulose backbone impacts solubility properties. METHOCEL™ J75MS has a viscosity of 75,000 cPs when added at 2% in water.
Surface-treated cellulose polymers like METHOCEL™ J75MS are cellulose ethers that are cross-linked with glyoxal. This cross-linkage allows METHOCEL™ J75MS to be more easily dispersed in aqueous solutions prior to hydration, which is triggered by pH adjustments.
METHOCEL™ J75MS imparts shear-thinning rheology and is compatible with various solvents. It also has outstanding pH stability, making it an ideal thickener, binder, and suspension agent in various applications such as coatings, adhesives, and cleaners. In architectural paint formulations, METHOCEL™ J75MS controls viscosity and rheology, improves film durability and storage stability, and assists with brush and roller loading. METHOCEL™ J75MS makes cleaning formulations easily sprayable and prevents sagging and dripping when applied to a vertical wall or overhead space. METHOCEL™ J75MS also functions as a water-retaining agent, an important feature for applications such as tile adhesives, tape–joint compounds, mortars, and plasters, where open time, workability, and strength properties are important.
