LUDOX® colloidal silicas are discrete, amorphous, spherical silica particles dispersed in water that provide a diverse set of functionalities in several applications. They are used in chemical formulations in various applications, including coatings, paints, refractories, concrete, catalysts, and paper.
LUDOX® grades are available in a variety of particle-size distributions, pH ranges, silica sol charge, and more. To find the best fit for your application, start by selecting the functionality you require below.
Lithium polysilicate is an aqueous solution of lithium oxide and silica featuring a silica to lithium oxide ratio of 4.8. It is commonly used as a concrete hardener and inorganic binder in coatings.
LUDOX® AM is a colloidal silica modified to be stable over a wide pH range. It is used primarily as a binder, surface modifier, and flocculant.
LUDOX® AS-30 is an ammonium-stabilized alkaline dispersion of amorphous silica. This colloidal silica is typically used as a binder in catalyst and high-temperature ceramic applications and as a cobinder and surface modifier in paints and coatings.
LUDOX® AS-40 is an alkaline, 40% solids aqueous dispersion of colloidal silica with a particle size of 22 nm. It is stabilized with ammonium and used as a high-temperature binder and catalyst in a wide range of industrial applications.
LUDOX® CL is an acidic 30% aqueous dispersion of surface-treated colloidal silica. This LUDOX® grade carries a positive surface charge and is used as a surface modifier for paper.
LUDOX® CL-P is an acidic aqueous dispersion of surface-treated silica. It carries a positive surface charge and is typically used as a frictionizing aid for paper.
LUDOX® CL-X is an aqueous dispersion of monodisperse amorphous silica particles that are 22 nanometers. It is used to increase the coefficient of friction on paper, linerboard, and corrugated sheets.
LUDOX® DF is an aqueous dispersion of silica with a 12 nm particle size. It is designed to be used in floor coatings to increase friction and reduce slip.
LUDOX® HS-30 is a colloidal silica with an average particle size of 12 nm. It is a binder in casting and ceramics applications and a cobinder to increase abrasion resistance in latex paint and coatings.
LUDOX® HS-40 is an alkaline colloidal silica that offers a good balance between high binding strength and stability in coating and refractory applications.
LUDOX® HSA is a slightly acidic, deionized colloidal silica with a particle size of 12 nm. It's used as a binder in coatings to improve durability.
LUDOX® PW-50 is an alkaline colloidal silica with low specific surface area. It is used as an abrasive in polishing slurries and as a surface modifier.
LUDOX® SM is an amorphous colloidal silica with a particle size of 7 nm. It is a highly temperature-stable binder used in coatings and refractories and as a pozzolanic additive for concrete densifiers.
LUDOX® SM-AS is an ammonium stabilized colloidal silica with 7 nm particle size. It is used as a binder in applications that require extreme temperatures.
LUDOX® TM-50 is a dispersion of anionic silica with an average particle size of 22 nm. It is often used as a surface-modifying agent in paper and textile coatings.
LUDOX® TMA is an anionic colloidal silica designed to be stable over a broad pH range. It is used to prepare ethyl silicate–silica hybrid binders that create slurries used in casting.
