Applications

LUDOX® HS-30 is formulated to the optimum silica level for use as a binder in investment casting and ceramics. It is commonly used to bind inorganic materials including metals and oxides like aluminum, iron, and ceramic fibers used in ceramics and refractory manufacturing. Incorporation of LUDOX® HS-30 into cermaic slurries improves green strength of formed ceramic parts and reduces defect rates during production.

LUDOX® HS-30 is used in water-based coatings and adhesives to improve durability. The silica particles in LUDOX® HS-30 surround the polymer particles in water-based formulations and become an integral part of the latex film upon coalescence. The use of LUDOX® HS-30 in coatings and adhesives has also shown to improve the adhesion of the formulation to a variety of substances including metal and glass.

The electrostatic nature of LUDOX® HS-30 makes it an efficient flocculant for waste water and paper making applications where positively charged contaminants must be removed. This functionality also proves useful in beverage fining applications. Food grade material is available for use in beverage fining applications.
