Colloidal Silica
LUDOX® HSA is an acidic, 30% solids, aqueous dispersion of surface modified silica. LUDOX® HSA is unique in that it contains no stabilizing counter ion. LUDOX® HSA is useful in applications sodium or alkaline components used to stabilize colloidal silica aren't desired. LUDOX® HSA particles have a very high surface area and is excellent at binding metals, siliceous material, oxides, and polymers with reactive functional groups.
Alkaline colloidal silica isn't compatible with formulation.
Coatings with poor durability.
Surface is too slippery.
Failure of binding resins caused by exposure to high heat.
LUDOX® HSA can be added to coating formulations and will not interfere with polar solvents in the formulation. The LUDOX® HSA particles remain in the cured coating and improve film durability and anti-blocking properties. Additionally, the particle size of LUDOX® HSA allows for it to be added to coatings without altering the clarity of the dried film.
In adhesive formulations LUDOX® HSA can be used to improve adhesion to metal and glass surfaces.
LUDOX® HSA is very efficient at binding and is often used to bind metals for catalyst applications.
