Eastman AQ™ 55S polymer is a sulfopolyester that disperses directly in hot water without the aid of surfactants or additives. Aqueous dispersions of Eastman AQ™ 55S can be applied to various substrates and will rapidly dry at room temperature to form clear thermoplastic films. Films formed by Eastman AQ™ 55S are highly flexible and have excellent resistance to smudging and humidity making it an ideal film former and binder for use in long wear cosmetics, inks, and coatings.

Applications
Dispersions of AQ™ 55S form clear films with excellent durability and provide water-based makeup with improved smudge and humidity resistance. In hair-styling products, AQ™ 55S also provides excellent hold under high humidity conditions and stiffness that can be modified with thickeners or plasticizers.
AQ™ 55S can also be used as a film forming resin in water based heat seal coatings and adhesives. Dispersions of AQ™ 55S can be easily applied to packaging films to form a clear, thermoplastic coating that can be heat sealed to other films and foils.
In flexographic ink formulations, AQ™ 55S is used as a binder. The rapid drying speed of this polymer due to its small particle size allows for inks to dry quicker and printing speeds to be increased.
It’s not exactly new for consumers to want their makeup to survive the day. Between weather, work, and workouts, color cosmetics have their work cut out for them. SAIB (sucrose acetate isobutyrate) and AQ™ polymers from Eastman™ promote adhesion and form films to help makeup stay where it belongs.
