AQ™ 65S is a water-dispersible sulfopolyester resin used as a binder and aqueous film former in water-based coatings, inks, and adhesives.
The AQ™ 65S polymer is a thermoplastic, aromatic sulfopolyester resin supplied in pellet form. Unlike other AQ™ resins, which form dispersions directly in hot water, AQ™ 65S typically requires heat or a cosolvent to form a stable aqueous dispersion due to its low charge density. Water-based dispersions of the AQ™ 65S sulfopolyester will rapidly form clear, smooth, durable films with a low coefficient of friction and excellent resistance to water and alcohols.
With a moderate glass transition temperature (Tg) of 63°C, rigid, low-tack films of AQ™ 65S can be easily formed and applied to film and foil substrates. These create inks, wood coatings, and overprint varnishes with minimal blocking.
The AQ™ 65S sulfopolyester is also well suited for use as a film-forming polyester resin for water-based heat seal coatings used in the packaging industry. Sulfopolyester dispersions made with AQ™ 65S effectively disperse solid pigments, making it useful to incorporate into aqueous ink and coating formulations.
