METHOCEL™ E10M is a medium–molecular weight hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) rheology modifier with a viscosity of 10,000 cPs at 2% in water. It is often used in applications like coatings, adhesives, and inks.
METHOCEL™ E10M is a medium–molecular weight, water-soluble HPMC polymer often used as a thickener and stabilizer across various industrial formulations. METHOCEL™ E10M has moderate hydroxypropyl substitution and high methoxy content, resulting in a polymer that is more compatible with solvent- and alcohol-based solutions than other METHOCEL™ cellulose ethers. In general, with METHOCEL™ grades, the combination of hydroxypropyl substitution and methoxy content influences the overall balance of hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties of the HPMC.
Solutions that contain METHOCEL™ E10M are thixotropic with a high level of lubricity. This characteristic makes them easy to disperse, spread, and extrude. Additionally, METHOCEL™ E10M can form films with good durability and flexibility. METHOCEL™ E10M will reversibly gel at temperatures exceeding 64°C to provide a rapid boost in viscosity. This boost in viscosity provides additional green strength in applications such as ceramics and adhesives.
