ALKANOX™ 240 Granular, similar to ALKANOX™ 240 Powder, is a highly efficient phosphite antioxidant that effectively reduces peroxide-induced oxidative degradation during the processing of polymeric materials and thermoplastics. It carries a broad range of FDA approvals for use in food contact applications.
ALKANOX™ 240 is a cost-efficient general purpose antioxidant for use in high-temperature processes due to its low volatility and superior color control and protection.
ALKANOX™ 240 is commonly used polypropylene for its minimal LTHA color and gas fading properties. It is also a preferred antioxidant for use in polyolefins, polycarbonate, ABS, and polyesters when thermal stability and color protection are required. It is also used as a general propose process stabilizer in coatings, hot-melt adhesive, and sealants.
Primary Chemistry: Tris (2,4-di-t-butylphenyl) phosphite
Features & Benefits
Supplied in granular form form, Non-dusting Cost-efficient Prevents processing-induced degradation Effective at high temperatures Broad FDA food contact approval Excellent hydrolytic stability Color control and protection Minimal effect in LTHA color Minimal impact for gas fading High synergy with phenolic antioxidants
Problems Solved
High cost and loading rate of high-temperature antioxidants Peroxide decomposition and degradation in polymers and thermoplastics FDA clearance for phosphite antioxidants for use in food contact applications High volatility and color control issues with the use of primary antioxidants Stability in high-temperature processes, including thermoplastics and hot melt adhesives long lead time and supply issues of Tris (2,4-di-t-butylphenyl) phosphite antioxidants Dusting and handling difficulties of powder form antioxidants
