CELLOSIZE™ QP-300 is a nonionic and water-soluble hydroxyethylcellulose polymer. It serves a variety of functions in water-based formulations. CELLOSIZE™ QP-300 can be grafted to acrylic and vinylic polymers in emulsion polymerization reactions to provide improved emulsion stability. When grafted to these growing polymers CELLOSIZE™ QP-300 Hydroxyethylcellulose binds to free water and creates a protective colloid around the growing latex polymer. This protective colloid provides a transitional layer between the latex and water and causes the emulsion to become remarkably stable. CELLOSIZE™ QP-300 is easy to disperse in water because it is surface treated to delay hydration. This allows for the polymer to be completely dispersed prior to hydration and prevents the formation of gel and lumps. Often times it is necessary to "kick-off" hydration by increasing the pH or temperature oft he dispersion. CELLOSIZE™ QP-300 Hydroxyethylcellulose will yield solutions with a viscosity of 300-400 cP when added to water at 2%. The molecular weight of the polymer is tightly controlled and is much more consistent batch to batch when compared to guar and xantham gum.
