Elvacite™ 2669 is a water-soluble methacrylate copolymer acrylic resin used as a binder and film former in coatings and inks where low VOCs are desired.
Elvacite™ 2669 is a solid-bead methacrylate copolymer acrylic resin with a high acid number and medium molecular weight. The polymer’s high acid number makes it soluble in slightly alkaline aqueous solutions. Accordingly, Elvacite™ 2669 is an ideal film-forming resin for low-VOC ink and coating formulations or formulations applied to solvent-sensitive substrates. Films formed with the Elvacite™ 2669 acrylic resin exhibit excellent adhesion to a variety of substrates, including plastic and metal. These films are also highly abrasion resistant and have good UV resistance. However, Elvacite™ 2669 forms water-reducible films due to its water solubility. Thus, this acrylic resin is best suited for applications where temporary coating and ink systems are desired. If a more permanent coating or ink is needed, Elvacite™ 2669 can be formulated with zinc oxide to improve water resistance and enhance durability.
