Epolene® C-18 is a highly branched, low density polyethylene polymer that has been grafted with maleic anhydride. When used in hot melt coatings it provides excellent heat seal-ability to paper, polyolefin films, and foils. The added functionality of Epolene® C-18 is also useful in hot melt adhesive applications where it can improve hot tack and adhesion to difficult substrates. In addition, Epolene® C-18 is an excellent additive for highly filled color and additive masterbatch. The maleic anhydride grafted to the polymer allows for better compatibility between additives and polyethylene. This allows for increases in additive levels without agglomeration or settling. In addition, Epolene® C-18 is an outstanding dispersion agent and processing aid for color masterbatch. When added in low levels, Epolene® C-18 improves color yield and allows for more efficient production.
Low moisture vapor transmission Grease resistance High gloss Good heat seal ability Low color Maleic anhydride grafted
Problems Solved
Heat seal coating does not seal well enough. Hot melt adhesive doe not adhere to packaging films. Agglomeration of additives in masterbatch. Discoloration of paper or packaging film caused by a wax coating.
Applications
Hot melt adhesives, solvent-based adhesives, plastics compounding, plastics color concentrates, paper coating emulsions, cardboard coatings, automotive coatings, curtain/cascade coatings, building & construction coatings, packaging coatings, candles, and wax modification applications.
