CAB-531-1 is a low molecular weight mixed cellulose ester with high butyrate content. CAB-531-1 is the ideal resin for coatings that require best in class appearance and performance. Pigment orientation, flow, leveling, durability, and gloss are all improved with CAB-531-1. When combined with thermoplastic acrylic resins it forms durable films with excellent weathering resistance. CAB-531-1 has better flexibility than lower butyrate CABs and is compatible with a broader range of solvents and resins. Due to this increased flexibility CAB-531-1 requires less plasticizer modification. CAB-531-1 has also been used in nail care applications as a replacement for nitrocellulose due to the superior UV stability and product safety.
